Recently signed to one of our favorite labels Ghostly International (Matthew Dear, Phantogram, Gold Panda, Com Truise), Brooklyn duo Beacon are re-releasing their debut EP No Body for FREE here and prepping for the release of their second EP, For Now — “five songs that continue the band’s exploration of the dark spaces under the surface of human relationships.”  The first track to be released is “Feeling’s Gone,” below…

Cheers Elephant – Doin’ It Right

wherever it takes me…

2416810494-1

Et Musique Pour Tous posted about them a few weeks back and i loved it at first sight/listen.

Cheers Elephant is a quartet from Philly – they look and sound like what I imagine my pops and his friends to listen to in the 70′s sitting around in their puma track suits with some beers on their way to play basketball so naturally I’m in love with this album. They recently released ‘Like Wind Blows Fire’ – 10 tracks for $10. A few shows this month and next in Philly.

Stand out tracks: Peoples; Doin It Right; Leaves; Little Dog.

Alt-J Live

alt-j glasslands

We just posted about alt-J a few weeks ago, so this is a quick update on their live shows and more shows to come.  The U.K. foursome played Mercury Lounge and Glasslands this week with Illumntr one night and Soft Spot and Mon Khmer the latter.  They’ll be back in NYC on September 12th at Bowery Ballroom to kick off their North American tour (full tour dates HERE).  Tickets to the NYC show are still available.  FTB recommendation: buy 1.  Or more.  The band’s debut An Awesome Wave will be released on September 18th in the U.S. (it’s already out in the UK).

The Lumineers Live

the lumineers

The Lumineers performed at Central Park Summerstage last night between opening act The Milk Carton Kids and headliners Old Crow Medicine Show.  One of the highlights of the evening was the sound of the crowd coming to attention and buzzing in anticipation to welcome the Denver-based Lumineers as they took the stage.  Since their self-titled debut was released in April, the newcomers have steadily gained attention and a strong following with one of the strongest albums of 2012 so far.  Every song has become a favorite as I’ve listened to the album over and over again, and their live performance last night was as equally captivating.  My only criticism – more songs and play for longer next time please!
