A new artist, a new EP and a new label. Kaya Kaya Records (in conjunction with XL Recordings) is releasing its first bit of music via a debut EP called Leaflings from new artist Glass Animals, who is vocalist, songwriter and artist David Bayley. Leaflings is a sneak peek at a forthcoming LP.
Happy Birthday to our favorite ABC anchor and founder of ‘Amplified‘ – Dan Harris.
forthebeat had (the extremely fun) opportunity to put on two amazing CMJ shows with Amplified which included performances by Sleigh Bells, We Have Band, Phantogram, Hooray for Earth, Kisses, Dominant Legs and more so we’d like to dedicate today’s post to Dan and his day of birth.
Our birthday song to Dan and the recently put-on-pause Amplified (which we love and miss) is appropriately Lil Wayne’s “Outstanding”
Amplified has done over 90 interviews, from Duran Duran to Das Racist, Cee Lo, Cut Copy, Chromeo, MGMT, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Hooray for Earth, and Electric Tickle Machine – where I got to shoot them at their Cake Shop Show….ohh 2010! Our favorite Amplified interview is Dan sitting down with Julian Casablancas:
For full 8 minute interview – check it out on Vimeo
And for some real insight into Dan – dont miss his Paris Hilton interview. Happy Birthday Dan! xx

when we were sent this earlier today, we casually, unknowingly, pressed play to check it out. What happened next is a bit curious - our mood turned drastically and instantaneously. Our instincts were to: violently toss our desk chair across the room. throw our coffee in someones face (not to hurt them, just to prove a point) and strip away the sweater (its f-ng cold in London, yea!?) and dance on the office table in our underwear.
still searching high and low for you summer jam!? ugh yea here it is–
And then this happened (!?!?!?!?!?!!?) a remix of our favorite YL – naturally, we are going to embark on that musical journey SKEPTICAL but its pure sunshine daydreams:
London’s Py was recently remixed by Welsh duo Face + Heel (Luke Taylor and Sinead McMillan). XLR8R cited Face + Heel as “intricate electronic compositions with an acute focus on songcraft.”
They’ll release ‘No Stars,’ next month, the first of 3 EPs they plan on releasing this year on new label, Warm. Warm also reps tensnake and heads DJ opps for Foals, Justin Miller, Tornado Wallace and more.
Check out more from Py including the bretonLABS remix of her track “Withdraw the Ambassador” and her ‘Tripping on Wisdom” mixtape – free to download from her page.
you don’t really need much of an intro for a total babe who plays the drums and sings and makes a dominant-4 line track work so ill keep it short: florrie is 22, from Bristol, UK, she’s unsigned and just released a new EP titled ‘Late’ – get it on itunes.
i pull the trigger on our love. keep messing me around. got my finger on the gun. bang bang i shot you down.
alt-J or ∆ (the Greek symbol for Delta, which you get from the combo of “Alt” and “J” on your computer, and also a triangle, which the band declare as their “favourite shape” – yeah, triangles ARE pretty cool) is a foursome from the U.K. who describe their sound as “folk-step” – fitting for a progressive indie sound with clear tribal influences. Take two listens – it takes a few minutes to go from hey, these vocals are interesting? to yeah, I could listen to this again. And again!
The band’s debut An Awesome Wave will be released on September 18th in the U.S. (it’s already out in the UK as of this past May) with a few quick tour stops in the U.S. in August just prior to the release to promote the debut.
