Alex Winston

Alex Winston’s “Velvet Elvis” was recently remixed by Crystal Fighters.  The Velvet Elvis EP is out now, purchase on itunes. Its probably the best yayyyy its Friday anthem I’ve wanted to post in awhile.  Especially when she says “its finger paint and circle time.”

Alex Winston will be touring throughout November in the UK. She will be in London on November 10th at Roundhouse.

Motivation

Lil_Wayne_12

Kelly Rowland’s new song with Lil Wayne “Motivation” is off of her new album, “Here I Am” and its bad-a**.  The only thing more BA than the song is the video.

Kelly ‘s currently on tour with Chris Brown and is promoting her new album with a contest where fans are asked to send in photos holding up a sign with the title of her album encouraging fans to be creative about showing who they are (yawn) well at least there’s some cool prizes like an ipad.

Real Estate: New Album

real estate

New Jersey’s Real Estate’s new album “Days” comes out October 18th under Domino. One of my favorite tracks is called “Green Aisles.” This is their second album, after their self titled came out in 2009.

New Artist: Meridians

meridians

South of France’s new duo, Meridians have released a few tracks including “Animals” “Face B” and their remix of Tahiti 80′s “Defender.” They grabbed the attention of the incredible Alan Braxe and us as well.

French indie-pop review website Magic reviewed them earlier this week here.

Micachu & The Shapes

m and the shapes

Micachu & the Shapes have been around since 2006 but I recently discovered them. I’m most drawn to Mica Levi (the lead of the group’s) androgynous voice that I’ve fallen in love with…the UK act most recently released “Chopped and Screwed” on Rough Trade. One of the more recent tracks “Everything” is below. I also posted the video to 2008′s “Lips.” Mica previously collaborated with Jack Penate and forthebeat’s recent favorite, Ghostpoet.

New Artist: Breton

“Art pop sonic and visual experimentalists” UK based Breton, will be on tour with Ghostpoet September/October throughout the UK including the October 13th London show at Scala, which we will hopefully be attending.

Their new single is out officially November called “Edward the Confessor/Kensington System.” Breton’s remixes, under the name BretonLABS, have done remixes for Local Natives, Tom Vek, Temper Trap and more.

Live, Breton performs as a full piece band, shrouded in black hoods, set to a backdrop of self shot movies. Most recently, they supported Tom Vek’s comeback UK tour which was sold out.

New Artist: Ghostpoet

ghostpoet

A friend at Kayak music introduced me to Ghostpoet months ago but I didn’t get around to listening (foolishly). Now, ever since I checked out a few tracks, I can’t stop searching for more and more.

Ghostpoet is an experimental hip-hop artist from London. His EP from 2010 and more recently some tracks and remixes below are all previews for his first album, set to debut early next year. Til then, you can catch him on his UK tour for the rest of September through October. He plays London’s Scala venue on October 13.

Below is 7 tracks and remixes titled “Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jams”, starting with one of my new favorites called “Liiines.”

Kasabian – New Album

kasabian

Kasabian will release their fourth album this week, Velociraptor. “La Fee Verte” (green fairy) is one of my favorite tracks that has been released. It immediately feels like a tribute to the Beatles which is confirmed by a Beatles’ lyric used in the song and an incredible single off the new album.

Kasabian will celebrate the release of the new album with a free signing at London’s HMV Oxford Circus store today – Monday, September 19. They start touring in November which includes UK, Germany, France and Italy.

Aeroplane’s Tribute to DJ Mehdi

DJ Mehdi

“Hi all, I’m not good with words. But somehow since Tuesday I couldn’t think right and something needed to get out. Music being the only medium I know how to use, here it is. It’s called “Big Boys Don’t Cry.” Once again, my thoughts go out to all my friends who are going through hard times right now.” - Aeroplane

Aeroplane created “Big Boys Don’t Cry” in honor of DJ Mehdi who died tragically, on Tuesday at his Parisian home, at a party when the mezzanine gave way and collapsed. DJ Mehdi was an amazing producer and core member of the Ed Banger Collective. I got to see him live February 2010 on my birthday for the 7th Anniversary Ed Banger show  at Terminal 5 and he was incredible. His collaborations are many but most notably that with Busy P, Breakbot, Daft Punk, Aeroplane, Chromeo and more. Below is Aeroplane’s tribute to their friend and my/many’s favorite Mehdi track “Signatune” with the official video below.
