The Middle East – Blood
I was introduced to Australian band The Middle East the other day, and I have not been able to stop listening to the track Blood. That frequently happens when a song gives you the chills on the first listen.
Searching around, I haven’t found too much information on the band, probably because they haven’t toured much outside of Australia. Seems they formed in 2005 and were best known for playing Christian music festivals – and you can definitely hear a hint of that influence today. They split up in 2007 before joining up again to release a self-titled EP in April 2008, which you can download here. Since then, they have played a number of major festivals in their home country, as well as hit the road with noteworthy bands including Doves.
All that, partnered with the fact that they recently re-released their EP The Recordings of The Middle East in the US and are busy touring in Australia thru February, suggests we’ll be hearing a lot more from this folk/rock outfit.
So check them out – I cannot get over this song (as well as the video); the layering, build up and intense lyrics, harmonized by all six members…
