Florence and The Machine Remixes

Florence

Lungs, the debut album from Florence and the Machine, was released in the UK this past July, selling over 100,000 copies within the first month.  Led by frontwoman Florence Welch, who credits influences including Annie Lennox, Courtney Love and Kate Bush, the band played at Fader Fort during CMJ last week, as well as The Late Show with David Letterman and Bowery Ballroom this week.  The latter was the first “official” appearance stateside, coinciding with the physical release of Lungs in the US.

A number of singles off the debut album have been remixed, including one by forthebeat favorite The xx (although it’s more like a cover).  These are the two on repeat:

Florence and the Machine - You've Got the Love (The xx Remix)

Florence and the Machine - Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up) (SLOF MAN & JOR-ONE Dubstep Remix)

The Middle East – Blood

I was introduced to Australian band The Middle East the other day, and I have not been able to stop listening to the track Blood.  That frequently happens when a song gives you the chills on the first listen.

Searching around, I haven’t found too much information on the band, probably because they haven’t toured much outside of Australia.  Seems they formed in 2005 and were best known for playing Christian music festivals – and you can definitely hear a hint of that influence today.  They split up in 2007 before joining up again to release a self-titled EP in April 2008, which you can download here.  Since then, they have played a number of major festivals in their home country, as well as hit the road with noteworthy bands including Doves.

All that, partnered with the fact that they recently re-released their EP The Recordings of The Middle East in the US and are busy touring in Australia thru February, suggests we’ll be hearing a lot more from this folk/rock outfit.

So check them out – I cannot get over this song (as well as the video); the layering, build up and intense lyrics, harmonized by all six members…

Recovery

It’s been a week since our showcase, and we’ve finally recovered from CMJ!  The show was amazing.  I spent the day filming with ABC News Amplified, interviewing X-Wife, Phantogram and We Have Band.  Everyone was so amazing and gracious, especially considering they’ve been traveling all around the country and the world, making their way to CMJ, and then continuing on the road.

After the shoots, we headed over to Public Assembly, where our showcase got underway with the aforementioned bands, as well as Sleigh Bells (a huge CMJ breakout), our favorite foursome Electric Tickle Machine, and our resident DJ Heats.  The night rocked thanks to an amazing flow of people and our awesome sponsors, including Tainted Blue Recording Studio, Swagger New York and Et Musique Pour Tous.

So thanks for the support and an extra special thanks to Dan Harris, David Wharton, Jillian Kelleher, Sian-Pierre Regis, Hector Mendoza, Mark Heaton, Rob Loud, Hilary Bonaccorsi, Ian Vens, Shiva Krishna, and to all of our BANDS!

If you had as much fun as we did, and you miss all the bands as much as we do, you might want to download our party playlist here (for the memories).  Also, check out Rob Loud’s pics from the event here.

In addition to the video above, ABC News Amplified filmed the whole night, and will be featuring full-blown video interviews with each band, including snippets from our show, over the coming weeks.  We’ll be sure to keep you posted…
